JUNETEENTH is the commemoration and celebration of the final ending of slavery in 1865. While the National Holiday is Monday, the 19th, Lawrence will be celebrating all day and evening on Saturday, the 17th. Come to South Park for daylong festivities including live music, art, food vendors, and tables and booths from many area groups focused on a multicultural celebration of education, family, and community.
In the evening, at 7:30, be sure to take in the innovative program of music and stories celebrating freedom through dance at the Lied Center, called "Freedom Has a Voice: Dance Narratives". All are welcome to this free event.
