The Project Management Committee is inching closer to a final plan for the renovation of the Plymouth Sanctuary. No design decision has been made as we continue to gather critical information.

In recent months, weeks, and days we have:

  • Provided a mock-up to give congregants a sense of height for a renovated chancel. The mock-up has been preserved and will be reinstalled for congregants’ consideration when a formal direction is requested.

  • Contracted with Mar-Lan Construction of Lawrence to work with Architects Clark-Huesemann is estimating our construction costs. Fiscal notes are due on Monday, December 8.

  • Project Management Committee Member Doni Mooberry Slough has opened communication lines with the Kansas State Historical Preservation Office to begin the process of seeking historical tax credits.

  • Communication channels have opened and are utilized with the Organ Builder Schoenstein Company, Keebler Design for Casework, Church Architects and the Project Management Committee.

  • Extra efforts and time have been allocated to find acceptable ways to make a renovated chancel accessible to all. Preliminary affirmation has been reached to make the renovated choir loft accessible by all.

The Project Management Committee is closing in on a recommendation for the Church Council. With the Council’s approval, the design will be brought forward to Plymouth Congregants for discussion and approval or disapproval. It is anticipated this could happen the latter part of January of 2026. Again, many variables are in play in order for this timeline to work.

Affordability, accessibility, and respect for the historical significance of our worship center continue to be the drivers of this major work for Plymouth Church.

An update will be provided by the Project Management Committee at the conclusion of the December 14 church budget work session.

Plan to attend!

Respectfully, Terry Schmidt, Chair
